C02gether Helps You Calculate, Reduce and Track Your Carbon Footprints

Molly

Madison Gas and Electric, 1000 Friends of Wisconsin and UW-Madison’s Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment introduce CO2gether, a new website designed to help residents of South Central Wisconsin reduce their carbon footprints. C02gether allows participants to calculate their carbon footprints by entering household data, monthly energy use and average amounts of monthly transportation miles, MPG and modes of transportation. You can then track and journal your efforts by registering for free at C02gether.

You can also request to use your actual energy use from MG&E and then measure how well you are doing and ways in which you might improve energy use. The site offers discussion groups that cover topics such as sharing energy saving tips, picking out high efficiency furnaces and announcing local climate change events.

If you are interested in the environment of south-central Wisconsin and believe that individual actions when combined with many others can make a significant difference, visit the site today and get started reducing your carbon footprint. You might also want to check out  Sustaining our World, Our Communities, Ourselves, a special collection of materials dedicated to promoting earth friendly living, or a Portable Energy Meter to measure the energy efficiency of your appliances.  The library materials and the energy meters are examples of the various ways the library partners with Madison Gas & Electric.  The CO2gether web site was unveiled at the new Sequoya Library, which features many environment-friendly features.
