DVD Rental Fees to Increase
The Library Board approved a change to the DVD Rental fee at the July 10, 2008 meeting.
Effective August 1, the DVD rental fee will increase from $2.00 to $3.00.
Our Rental DVD collection is very popular. Increasing the rental fee for a one-week checkout allows us to increase additions to the collection without decreasing additions to our free DVD collection or other collections. There has been no increase in this fee since 1995.
We always purchase a free copy of all Rental DVD titles as well, but due to long hold lists, it may be several months or more before free copies are available for checkout.

We are sorry the increase in rental fees for DVDs from $2 to $3 has upset you. The rental collection is an additional collection created to have extra copies of select popular DVDs available, for a fee, as a convenience for people who do not want to wait for the free copies we also purchase. It is not a collection you have to use, you are always welcome to use the regular DVD collection, which costs you nothing. We hope you will reconsider using the library in the future for the many free resources it offers you and other Madison citizens.

Beau…
A $1 increase after 13 years is crippling you from ever watching a movie again? If that’s the case then perhaps you should try reading a book every once in a while… those are free. These “books” contain information which may enable you to increase your annual income to a level where an extra $1 to watch “Harold and Kumar” isn’t so devastating.
Public Libraries are priceless resources to every community, regardless of what their DVD policies are.
