catlinchapelimgMadison’s Forest Hill Cemetery is not only a beautiful piece of park land owned by the City of Madison since 1857, overlooking the city and lakes, it is also home to a Native American effigy mound and Union and Confederate Soldier military burial plots.  A free brochure that features a map and self-guided walking tour can be obtained at the Cemetery Office located at 1 Speedway or at the Parks Office.

From the City of Madison website, you can search the Forest Hill Cemetery burial records, view a map of the cemetery, and browse famous burial locations at Find A Grave.

For more information about the cemetery, check out a biographical guide from the library:

A Biographical Guide to Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison, Wisconsin:  The Ordinary and the Famous Women and Men Who Shaped Madison and the World researched and written by the Forest Hill Cemetery Committee of Historic Madison, Inc.
