tangoimgDid you know that And Tango Makes Three was the most challenged book in 2006?  Also on the Top 10 List of Most Challenged Books for 2006 is The Gossip Girls series, now a primetime television show airing on the CW network on Wednesday nights.

Join local literacy and education advocates, media figures and free speech defenders who will recognize Banned Books Week by reading selections from classic literature and other books that have been challenged or banned in our nation. The reading will be held on Thursday, September 27th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Open Book Café, College Library, University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. This celebration of literature and freedom of expression will be free and open to the public.

For more information about Banned Books Week (September 29–October 6), a censorship booklist and various resources available to combat censorship, please refer to our Banned Books Week website.

It is really vital that we have organizations that are trying to break free of the chains of censorship. It is really tragic that this day and age we still have people who are trying to silence good authors and works of literature.
