Meet with Engberg Anderson Design Partnership architects to review and discuss schematic designs for the new Sequoya Branch Library:

Sequoya Branch Library
Community Room
6:30 to 8:30 pm
We are very excited about the plans for the new Sequoya Branch, and hope you can attend this session to see the latest footprint and schematics, and hear about our efforts for energy savings and sustainability. Your input is important!
The new library will be nearly double the size of the current Sequoya Branch Library. Here’s what is in store:
- abundant natural light
- energy and water-saving efficiencies
- durable and beautiful finishes and furnishings
- a special featured area for browsing new books
- open, accessible book stacks
- quieter reading spaces with comfortable seating
- a fireplace
- a large, dividable community room
- 2 smaller study rooms
- more computers
- a teen section
- a separate children’s area, including pre-literacy and literacy activities
- express check out to help shorten or eliminate waiting in line
- larger processing, delivery and staff work areas
Groundbreaking for Phase I of the Midvale Plaza project should begin this week with the demolition of the outbuilding in the parking lot, with the beginning of construction for Sequoya Commons to follow shortly. The Library is planning on beginning the build-out of the library portion of the project this winter. Our hoped-for opening day for the new Sequoya Library is April 1, 2008.

I hope you are considering a Drive Through. They are very convenient for people who just need to drop off books and pick up reserves. They are very much appreciated in the winter months, by parents with infants and young children, and by people who have difficulty walking.
Thank you for your consideration of this idea.

There will be no drive up return/holds pick up service at the new Sequoya Library.
The idea of drive through library services was raised with the developer early on. Alas, space was the deciding issue, along with concerns about pedestrian safety and traffic flow. It just wasn’t possible to allocate sufficient space to a drive through without compromising the size of the new library and/or giving up a substantial number of parking spaces.
Plans do call for a convenient outside book drop, steps away from short-term parking spaces. The outside book return is (and will continute to be) open and available 24/7. Holds and check out will be located very near the parking lot entrance for quick in and out. Entrances and exits will be fully handicapped accessible.

A two story library with quiet reading on second floor with windows overlooking street intersection would have been nice. (Car lights wouldn’t shine into the second floor.) Could serve as a quiet place for book readings, political listening sessions, etc. Could have had an outdoor patio on roof of first floor with wildflowers or something for more leisurely reading, like newspapers.
No access point to center of development on Tokay/Midvale corner of building is a missed opportunity.
