Giving Tuesday to Benefit New Pinney Library

Giving Tuesday

Join the Madison Public Library Foundation for a Giving Tuesday celebration at the Harmony Bar and Grill from 5–7 p.m. Tuesday, November 28. Following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is an opportunity to support the organizations you love and make a difference in your community. This year, support The Capital Campaign for a New Pinney Library and help construct a new library for Madison's east side community beginning next year.

The family-friendly happy hour event will feature live music by The Mugs, made up of Tim Haub, Tom Dehlinger, Frankie Lee, Chuck Bayuk and Michael Gruber. Food and drinks can be ordered from the bar for an additional cost. There is a suggested donation of $10 at the door. All gifts to the Pinney Library project from November 28-December 3 will be doubled by a match gift up to $10,000

Progress on the Pinney Library

This past summer and fall, community members had a chance to share their hopes and dreams for a new Pinney Library at a number of public sessions culminating in the presentation of preliminary floor plan concepts presented by OPN Architects on November 9. A second set of public meetings to review more detailed floor plans for the new library will occur in late winter or early spring of 2018.

The future Pinney Library location will be located in the Ruedebusch Development & Construction’s (RDC) “Royster Corners” mixed use development located at the intersection of Cottage Grove Road and Dempsey Road in a 20,000 square foot space. Pre-design work began in summer 2017, followed by the design phase commencing in fall/winter 2017-2018. The new library is expected to open in 2019.

In addition to an increase of over 8,000 square feet from its current size, the new library will include a larger meeting room, more study spaces, a special space designed to promote early literacy and learning through play for young children and their families, an outdoor space, and a drive-through book drop.
