Bone Folders' Guild

handmade book

Celebrate a wide variety of book art creations with the Bone Folders' Guild, a group of papermakers, bookmakers, and other book artists who create, share, and promote book arts. They recently celebrated their 15th anniversary with an exhibit at the Overture Center that was written about in this Wisconsin State Journal article. The Bone Folders' Guild also created 60 handmade blank books that circulated through local public libraries for people to check out and add to the blank pages.  View many of the entries to these books through the UW Madison Digital Collections.

The Bone Folders' Guild will be exhibiting in the Pinney Library display case for the summer.  Visit Pinney Library now through the end of August to view this display of unique book art.

Learn how to make your own book art!  A member of the Bone Folders' Guild and owner of Valley Ridge Art Studio in Madison, Katherine Engen, will offer an Introduction to Bookmaking Workshop at Pinney Library on Thursday, June 29 at 6:15 pm.  Participants will learn four introductory structures to start your bookmaking: Single Sheet Book, Pamphlet Stitch, Accordion Fold, and Japanese Stab Binding. Each participant will come away from the workshop with a unique creation. All supplies provided, you bring the creativity.  If possible, please bring scissors, a metal ruler, and an awl.  Registration is  required to attend this event and will open on 6/15.  Follow this link to sign up for a space.
