Ten years later my favorite mystery author is still...
Jonathan Kellerman. His latest installment in the Alex Delaware series, Obsession, is just as good a page-turner as his first. Every reader has an author or two (or three) that they always read whatever book comes out, and Kellerman is one I have been faithful to for over ten years. That's a pretty long author/reader marriage.
Alex's patient in this book is a college girl named Tanya Bigelow who learned from her dying Aunt Patty about possible shady dealings in Patty's past. With the help of his trusty sidekick Milo Sturgis, an LAPD detective that has worked many cases with Delaware, they dig into Patty's past and find out how she became so wealthy on an ER nurse's salary. Is there a big secret in Patty's past and what does it have to do with a recent string of murders related to a hip-hop producer named Blaise De Paine? I cerntainly won't give away the ending, you'll have to read it to find out. Let's just say there is a romance at the end that I didn't see coming and I had the wrong guy pegged as the killer.
One of the things I really enjoy about this series is the cast of characters inhabit Dr. Delaware's life. Each book we find out alittle bit more about Milo, Robin (his on again/off again girlfriend) and Petra, another LAPD detective that actually has a spin-off series by Kellerman of her own. The other detail I really enjoy is the L.A. setting. I always picture heading out someday and traveling the roads Alex and Milo did to capture their killers.
So what authors are you "married" to? An inquiring librarian mind wants to know...
