Egypt in chapters and pictures

A review of The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan

I escaped January in Wisconsin by tagging along with Carter and Sadie Kane, the heroes of Rick Riordan’s awesome Kane Chronicles (The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire). These chapter books are pretty thick, but, like the Percy Jackson books, they are action-packed with death-defying adventure and lots of cool info on the gods of Ancient Egypt--you just can’t put them down! Unfortunately book #3, The Serpent’s Shadow, won’t be out until May (put it on hold now!), so I am tiding myself over with another excellent treasure I just unearthed: Jessie Hartland’s How the Sphinx Got to the Museum. A breathlessly rhyming read-aloud reminiscent of The House That Jack Built, How the Sphinx Got to the Museum is a great introduction to both art conservation and Egyptian mythology. Add some new vocabulary and Egyptian magic to your Wisconsin winter today!
