A bittersweet lobster tale In God we trust, all others pay cash

Blue chills and thrills

Jane J. - Central Library

blue.jpgWhile I was reading Illona Haus’s third mystery featuring Baltimore Detective Kay Delaney I was walking past rows of pigs daily and let me tell you, Blue Justice gave me a whole new understanding of these animals (and not a few chills about them as well).

Baltimore is in the midst of a crime wave when Kay and her partner Finn are called out.  One of their own has been taken.  Officer Micky Luttrell had been working undercover as a prostitute and disappeared on her way home.  Now, fearing she has been taken by a serial killer, Kay and her team are in a race against the clock.

With her first mystery, Blue Mercy, Haus proved she was a skilled writer and her second effort cemented her status in my head as a writer to watch.  Much to my delight her writing has grown with each new book.  And her latest is a thrilling page-turner that never loses track of the police procedures that make for a realistic reading experience.  Here’s hoping there are more on the way.
