Mummy love

Molly - Central

professorsdaughterimgWhat do you get when you combine Victorian era England, mummies and the enchanting artwork of Emmanuel Guibert and Joann Sfar? Why, it’s The Professor’s Daughter

Guibert and Sfar are the genius artists behind the hilarious Sardine in Outer Space series (the French equivalent of Captain Underpants with a swashbuckling little girl heroine).  Their newest offering, The Professor’s Daughter, is a real treat in a madcap romantic comedy starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant kind of way.

Lillian, the professor’s daughter, falls in love with an Egyptian mummy (King Imhotep IV, a precious antiquity that her father is classifying for the British Museum).  While deliriously happy, the two face insurmountable odds.  Add some arsenic, a billy club and a visit to the Queen and you have one of the most ingenious combinations of story and art available in France or the U.S.
