Beyond Reach, the latest title in Karin Slaughter’s Grant Count series is full of action and emotion. Sara Lipton, a pediatrician and small town cornorer, is depressed due to an ongoing malpractice lawsuit. She has chosen to close her clinic and is awaiting a trial or settlement. This leaves her available to join her husband Jeffery Tolliver, the police chief, on a road trip to aid the investigation of one of his deputies accused of murder. Lena, the accused, was found at the crime scene, arrested and taken to the hospital. She escapes and attempts to solve the crime on her own. Meanwhile, Jeffery and Sara are also looking to solve the crime and exonerate Lena. The criminal activity is complex, involving meth labs and skin heads, and the action is page turning. The plot contains many twists and turns.
The conclusion of the book is where the real suprise happens (I won’t tell, but you will not see this coming) and may affect the rest of the series. Was the ending as shocking for you?
