High Noon is the latest entry in Nora Robert’s writing empire. Phoebe McNamara is a police lieutenant in the Savannah police force and their chief negotiator in situations involving suicide or hostage threats. It is her day off but she is called to the scene of a suicidal man on the roof of a bar. The bar’s owner, Duncan Swift, is impressed by her and by the swift resolution of the situation due to her skills. What follows is a typical Nora Robert’s romantic suspense novel: an engrossing storyline with engaging characters that keeps you absorbed until the last page. Robert’s ability to add in plots involving things such as the status of females in a modern police force, the psychology behind hostage negotiation, agoraphobia, and how past actions impact on present day situations all make the book a more complex and sometimes darker story than the standard romance.
