Fact or fiction? Hidden lives

Lovers of Agatha Christie, look no further

Sarah - Alicia Ashman

The Circle by Peter LoveseyI love Agatha Christie.  Love her, love her, love her.  I have read all of her books, most of them twice, and when I’m looking for a relaxing read, her books are the ones I grab.

So you can imagine my dismay when I realized I had read everything she’d written.  For years I’ve wandered around in a mystery slump, convinced I’d never find another mystery author I’d like as much.

Enter the fabo book blogs Chasing Ray and Bookshelves of Doom.  Within the same week both of their authors posted a recommendation for a mystery called The Circle by an author named Peter Lovesey.  And (here’s the important bit) they both recommended Lovesey to fans of Christie’s!

I didn’t need to hear any more.  I got the book, am halfway through it, and, joy of joys, have been sucked in every bit as much as I always was by Christie!  Any other FOCs (Fans of Christie’s) out there?  I’m now a Lovesey fan but I’d love to hear any other author suggestions…

I hesitate to bring up a series that appears to be finito, but I really love the Edith Skom books. The George Eliot Murders? The Charles Dickens Murders? The Mark Twain Murders? I am still waiting for Charlotte Bronte, Edith - please write some more.

And guess what? Now The Circle is out in Audio, released by BBC America and narrated by Simon Prebble. I’ve mentioned him before. He is the best.

Thanks for the recommendation. I also love AC, but then who wouldn’t. I’ll tell you something funny though. I have read most of her books, many more than once, but I usually forget what they were about once I have finished. Some are really memorable, especially the ones that have been made into movies. But because so many don’t especially stand out, re-reading an old one is almost like reading a new one.

This doesn’t happen with any other author, just Agatha. Why it is I do not know-it’s a mystery:)!
