hw7.gifBridge of birds : a novel of an ancient China that never was by Barry Hughart.

Bridge of Birds is a novel similar to The Princess Bride, a fairy tale that combines humor and wonder, as mythic heroes have incredible adventures. In this novel we meet Number Ten Ox, who is searching for the cure to an affliction that has made all the children in his village fall into a deep sleep. He meets up with Master Li a wise man with “a slight flaw in his character”, and together they’re off on an epic quest to find the great root of power, the only thing that can save the children of the village.

There are two more books in this series, The story of the Stone & Eight skilled gentlemen. Bridge of Birds also won the 1985 World Fantasy Award.

Is this a young adult novel, or is it adult fiction? It sounds almost like it could be a children’s book, but you don’t file it that way.

We have it in adult fiction, but I think that it would go over well with the YA crowd as well.
