Attention Armchair Travelers! Don’t know much about art

26.2 miles for a brat?

Jon - Central Library

marathon.gifThe Mad City Marathon is held Memorial Day weekend each year, coinciding with Bratfest. Though it may appear that these two events don’t go together, I (and many others) disagree. After a tough race, what could be better than a brat? Lots of marathon and half-marathon training guides are available, including Marathon: The Ultimate Training Guide by Hal Higdon.

mortal.gifAnyone who wants to give it a shot, but feels unsure about it, might want to try Marathoning for Mortals: A Regular Person’s Guide to the Joy of Running or Walking a Half-Marathon or Marathon by John “The Penguin” Bingham. The guides offer more than training plans. They include tips on cross-training, mental preparation, and eating the right foods. Runner’s World, a monthly magazine, has a lot of information, too.

Wisconsin boasts at least six marathons. Besides the Mad City Marathon, there are marathons in Appleton, Eagle River, Green Bay, Hurley, and Milwaukee. In addition to the full marathon, most events offer a half-marathon, 5K, or other activities. Races2Run.com has a list of marathons throughout the country and worldwide.

I hope to see you on the Lakeshore Path this summer.
