Ahoy thar mateys, care for a touch o’ the sea? Cage of Stars

What goes around comes around but NO not the Mullet!

Tracy - Sequoya

mullet.gifSequoya Branch had an interesting book display a couple of weeks ago on microhistories.  One of the titles that caught my eye was a book called “The Mullet: Hairstyle of the Gods” by Mark Larson and Barney Hoskyns. This is a fun little book  filled with great illustrations and photographs of mullet bearing personalities, some famous some not so famous. Yes even Paul McCartney is pictured!

The book starts with a history of the mullet and explains some of the many  mullet synonyms.  The “Ape Drape”  is a favorite synomyn depicting the Neanderthal Man.  Does the mullet really date back to the dawn of civilization?  There’s also a chapter called the Mall of Fame with illustrations of different mullet types,  The Eastern Bloc, The Midwest Metal and The Pan-Ethnic. As the authors state “Far from being tied to certain demographics and socio-economic “groups”, the Mullet’s appeal has always transcended the barriers of race and class, uniting its wearers in a tacit, unspoken brotherhood.”

Not to be missed are the care and feeding of this lovely “do” or the recipes of mullet cuisine. Who could resist Twinkie-Misu?  The Twinkies are soaked in strong black coffee with ready to eat vanilla pudding and a can of whipped cream!  All in all “The Mullet” is a fun colorful browse.  Who knows, maybe inspiration will strike and a new hairstyle will result!

There is a guy around Madison with some unusual characteristics. If you know him, you know what I mean. But it’s his long curly mullet I notice first! Maybe I’ll give this book a chance… I’m due for a haircut myself.

Of course, there’s also the Tom Hanks version, which can be seen in theaters today.
