Best so far?
Amazon has posted their Top 20 Picks for the Best Books of the Year So Far and it's a pretty good list. I haven't read all of them (or even many of them) but I have seen them come up in conversation again and again and the buzz is good. A co-worker just finished Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell and is raving about it. I believe her, since I read Rowell's new book, Fangirl (due out in Sept), and just loved it. Others of my fellow MADreads reviewers have already written about their liking for some of the titles. Kris just wrote a great review for Khaled Hosseini's And the Mountains Echoed and Katie was fascinated by Mary Roach's Gulp.
After looking at their list I began to mull my own top reads so far this year. As I said, I loved Fangirl and would consider it in my top books so far. I reviewed Me Before You by JoJo Moyes and definitely consider it to be a top book and A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan made me impatient for the sequel. I've read fewer romances this year, but did love It Happened One Midnight by Julie Anne Long. And Gail Carriger's first in her young adult series, Etiquette & Espionage totally charmed me (and let me tell you that book two in the series, Curtsies & Conspiracies was equally good).
How about you? If asked for your top reads of the year so far, what books would you choose?
