Search for materials by format, including audio books, magazines, music, software, video and DVD, and web sites. The catalog contains over 1000 recommended web sites, many of which are alternatives or additions to print publications.
You may limit your search to only children's materials if you're looking for fiction or nonfiction on a particular topic by using the Children's search. You can also limit your search to only Children's materials once you have a title list.
When you get a list of subject, author, or title results, click on the option that looks best, on the left.
Once you have a title list, you can sort or limit using the boxes in the top right.
![]() Sort by title, author, publication date, series, or issue date. |
![]() Limit by format, language, or library location |
For multiple limits, use Advanced search or choose one limit, then limit the results again.
Search for popular or recommended items using LINKcat's linked bestsellers lists. This also includes links to new items added by Madison Public Library and our recommended reading. For more suggestions, see our recommended Don't Miss Lists pages, which also include lists of new additions to the Madison Public Library collection.
You can search for local organizations by key word, names, or subjects. This database includes Madison and Dane County organizations and groups. For example, enter "literacy" as a Key Word to find Madison Area Literacy Council and other local literacy organizations.
Search the Wisconsin State Journal and other area newspapers for articles and subject information. The Wisconsin State Journal includes an obituary index that goes back to 1960. To find obituaries, enter the name of the person (last name, first name) in the "Wis. State Journal Subject" field.
