Educators: Library Tours and More!

Interested in a tour, storytime or Library books in your classroom? Check out the options below, designed especially for teachers. All Library services are free!

How to Schedule a Tour

Find out how the Library works, get cards for your students and hear a story during a tour of your local Library. Call your local Library or email youth@madisonpubliclibrary.org to schedule your tour today.

Do You Want to Get Library Cards During Your Visit?

Want to help your students get their own Library cards before your class or group visits the Library? Call or stop by your local Library or email youth@madisonpubliclibrary.org to get applications and make arrangements for your students to get their cards. (Completed applications usually need to be received 2-3 weeks before a scheduled visit for processing.)

Preschool Storytime

Regular Preschool Storytimes are held at all Madison Public Library locations. If your class would like to attend a storytime at the Library, we are happy to have you! We only ask that you contact the Library a few days ahead so that the Librarians can plan accordingly.

Storytime in the Classroom

Can't travel to the Library? Let the Library come to you! Librarians can visit your classroom with stories, songs, puppets and more! Themes vary and may be tailored to fit your curriculum. To schedule a storytime in your classroom, call the Library closest to your school and ask for the Youth Services Librarian or email youth@madisonpubliclibrary.org.

Every Child Ready to Read

This class is for adults only and is recommended for Family Fun Nights or as a stand-alone parent workshop. During an Every Child Ready to Read presentation, a Librarian hosts an interactive event for parents, teachers and caregivers focusing on preparing children to succeed as readers before they actually learn to read and write. To schedule an Every Child Ready to Read event or to find out more information, call the Library closest to your school and ask for the Youth Services Librarian or email youth@madisonpubliclibrary.org.

Mobile Book Check-out

Want a new set of books each month for students and families? Let us bring our books to your door! Mobile book check-out can be done in many ways -- a rotating set of Library books can be brought to your classroom once each month; Librarians can bring books for kids to check out individually; books on a certain theme can be chosen ahead of time and held at your nearest Library. For more information or to request this service, email youth@madisonpubliclibrary.org.

Other Special Events

Are you planning a Family Fun Night, School Carnival, Literacy Night or other special event and want the Library to participate? We can provide informational booths, craft activities, and more! Email youth@madisonpubliclibrary.org with your event specifics.

Don't see quite what you're looking for? Contact us at youth@madisonpubliclibrary.org and give us your event idea. We love to collaborate with schools, daycares and other educational programs to inspire Madison's students!
