Artist in Residence James Belluci

The Bubbler at Madison Public Library is pleased to introduce its new artist in residence for August and September - James Bellucci.

New to Madison, James has a background in (among other things) higher education, digital and analog technology imaging, and gallery curation.

In his ongoing body of work, Anecdotes, James uses lightweight materials such as paper, wire, found objects, and cardboard to create table top sets. Each constructed set is created for the fixed focal point of the camera lens, flattening the images into a 2-dimensional collage that internalizes, subverts, and re-contextualizes images and narratives that have influenced him personally.

YOu can learn more about James' body of work, construct your own tabletop set, and explore the ideas of light, perspective, and scale as you photograph your own anecdote in these hands-on families- and all-ages workshops and open studio hours in the Bubbler at Central Library.

Open Studio Hours:

Constructed Imagery Workshop:

  • Wednesday, September 9, 6 - 7:30 pm in the Bubbler Room (register here)
  • Wednesday, September 23, 6 - 7:30 pm in the Bubbler Room (register here)

Two of them go to school, while the other two hide in the tree house and play video games all day -- then they switch! But when their malicious gym teacher, Mr. Meaner, creates a method of mind-control that turns their fellow students into attentive, obedient, perfect children, the future of all humanity will be in their hands.

Full Moon at the Napping House
by Audrey Wood and Don Wood

In the wide-awake bed in the full-moon house, everyone is restless! The moonlight is pouring in and no one can get to sleep: not Granny, her grandchild, the dog, the cat, or even a mouse. It's not until a tiny musical visitor offers up a soothing song does the menagerie settle down, and finally everyone is off to dreamland. With a perfectly crafted text and stunning paintings, Audrey and Don Wood reveal once again why they are picture book creators of the highest order. The Full Moon at the Napping House , the highly anticipated follow-up to their beloved classic The Napping House , is the ideal book to share at bedtime or anytime.

Twelve-year-old Zack Delacruz has remained happily unnoticed at his middle school... until now. Somehow this act of bravery gets Zack put in charge of the sixth-grade dance fund raiser with none other than the bully himself! Zack's situation goes from bad to worse when he learns that his best salesperson for the chocolate bar fund raiser has been EATING--not selling--her candy bars. Zack never wanted to be the class hero, but with the hopes of the entire sixth grade on the line, can he come up with a new plan to save the dance?

Sunny Side Up
by Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm

From the award-winning sibling team behind Babymouse, comes a middle-grade, graphic-novel memoir. Following the lives of kids whose older brother's delinquent behavior has thrown their family into chaos, Sunny Side Up is at once a compelling "problem" story and a love letter to the comic books that help the protagonist make sense of her world. By sister-bother team Jennifer and Matthew Holm. A full-color graphic novel in the vein of Raina Telgemeier's Smile.
