Kindergarten is over for my son, and he's made great strides in reading. The work of this summer will be to keep him reading to us, as of course we will continue to read to him. I've been ordering lots of different series books in, trying to find the right level for my son to read. The series we were using back in April Brand New Readers is now a wee bit too easy (which keeps him happy, but I'd like to give some challenge too.) There is a non-fiction publisher, Capstone Press, that has a great brand of books for the emerging readers: Pebble. We've read most of the Ocean Life series and found them just exactly right both in content and in difficulty. As usual we are reading chapter books, picture books, non-fiction books (especially about animals) and graphic novels. One of our new favorite authors is Ashley Spires-- re-discovered because of the great Larf. The Cork and Fuzz series is another fave. We read three of them back-to-back in one sitting! One thing we both like about Cork and Fuzz is that they are sweet, while handling life's lessons in a subtle way. Enjoy your reading!
