OverDrive Digital Download Center
Download audiobooks, eBooks, music and videos directly to your computer or for use with a variety of devices, including iPhones, iPads, Android devices, Nooks, Kindles, and more.
What Is OverDrive?
OverDrive is a library-purchased subscription to eBook, audiobook, music and video content. Madison Public Library, as part of the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium, has access to this shared collection. Using your library card, you can browse for titles to download to your computer or a variety of portable devices including MP3 players, iPods, iPads, Nooks, Kindles, and smartphones.
How Can I Use It?
To use the service, you’ll need to install the OverDrive Media Console. For eBooks, you'll also need Adobe Digital Editions. Follow the steps on the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium Quick Start Guide.
For information on borrowing titles (checking them out and downloading them) see Borrowing Help.
You can also take a tour of Overdrive's offerings. The tour involves videos and screencasts to help get you started.
Using it on your mobile device? Check out our instructions for the Overdrive Media Console app.
Troubleshooting OverDrive involves checking several layers of software and hardware. Start with the OverDrive Frequently Asked Questions wiki or OverDrive's MyHelp section which must be accessed from inside the OverDrive website for the most accurate information on device compatibility and troubleshooting. If you need further assistance, please contact any of our libraries. If the staff are unable to help you with your specific question, they can refer you to someone who can.
You may also want to check the quick sheet of compatible devices (as of 1/31/2011) or go to the Overdrive Device Resource Center. It's also possible to submit a support request via email.
OverDrive is provided by the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium, and our library's contribution is jointly funded by South Central Library System and Madison Public Library.
