Raised in a chaotic, ever-changing home by her imaginative but alcoholic father and artistic but often depressed mother, Jeanette Walls has never truly known stability. As she moves around the country with her family, she faces poverty, confusion, near homelessness and bullying by classmates who do not understand her circumstances. However, Jeanette's father always tries to inspire hope for the future in his children, even though he is largely responsible for the upheaval and uncertainty in their lives. And Jeanette holds those dreams for the future close, through good times and bad.

Lakeview Mystery Book Group Discussion of "The Dry" by Jane Harper

Lakeview Library
01/18/2018
6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Lakeview's Mystery Book Group hosts a book discussion of "The Dry" by Jane Harper. Join us around the fireplace! New members always welcome.

Synopsis: After getting a note demanding his presence, Federal Agent Aaron Falk arrives in his hometown for the first time in decades to attend the funeral of his best friend, Luke. Twenty years ago when Falk was accused of murder, Luke was his alibi. Falk and his father fled under a cloud of suspicion, saved from prosecution only because of Luke’s steadfast claim that the boys had been together at the time of the crime. But now more than one person knows they didn’t tell the truth back then, and Luke is dead.

Amid the worst drought in a century, Falk and the local detective question what really happened to Luke. As Falk reluctantly investigates to see if there’s more to Luke’s death than there seems to be, long-buried mysteries resurface, as do the lies that have haunted them. And Falk will find that small towns have always hidden big secrets. -- Amazon.com

Experience poetry, prose, and drama that will shed light on what it means to be African American in Wisconsin today, yesterday, and tomorrow through a multimedia presentation about the work and lives of these literary artists and their interpretations of race in Wisconsin.
