Film Editing workshop attendees will work with a professional Film Editor to edit, color correct, master and composite film. Attendees can bring their own footage or use stock footage provided by the Media Lab. Attendees are encouraged to bring a thumb drive or hard drive to save their work, and headphones for editing audio.

This workshop is staffed by Dan, with an expertise in Film Editing and Production.

Indie Film Production Workshop with Key Media

In the Indie Film Production Workshop the crew from the Madison based film company, Key Media, will work with you to draft, plan and plot your own independent film! Topics covered will include; Storytelling techniques, script writing, working on small/micro/no budgets, directing, and how to schedule a well managed production. Attendees are encouraged to bring a USB compatible storage device as well as a notepad and a pencil.

Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Attendees in the 3D Modeling workshop will learn to use Autodesk Maya, the main modeling and animation program used by most video game and film studios to design, create, and implement computer generated objects for games and film. REGISTRATION FULL: Join Families for Justice in an interactive workshop where we will practice concrete strategies for talking about race with children. We will learn to intentionally speak to the children in our lives about justice, naming race, and resisting racism. Together we will work to positively impact the ways that our children see, categorize, and make meaning about race.

Photoshop - everyone knows what it is, but not everyone knows how to use it. In the Intro to Photoshop workshop, Media Lab Instructor, Nate will teach you about all of the amazing things Photoshop is capable of doing - From painting portraits to putting Brad Pitt in your vacation photos! Attendees will gain a basic understanding of digital creation as well as photo manipulation and digital editing. Attendees are encouraged to bring a USB compatible storage device (portable hard drive or flash drive) to save their work.

Work with Lesley Numbers on an independent screen printing project.  Explore a variety of stenciling methods and experiment with inks and layering to create original designs on paper or fabric.  Some printmaking experience recommended.  Limited card stock, ink, and screens are available, feel free to bring in specialty paper, fabric, or additional screens. Ages 14 and up. No registration necessary but supplies are limited.

The fifth annual Pinney Mini Film Festival will take place on Saturday, March 18 from 6:30-8:30 pm as a special after-hours library event. The mini festival will present five short films that screened at the 2016 Wisconsin Film Festival, featuring a Q&A with some of the filmmakers and Wisconsin Film Festival Coordinator Ben Reiser. Space is limited; doors will open at 6:00 and guests may enjoy a performance by the White Birch Ensemble and light refreshments donated by Willy Street Coop from 6-6:30 pm. Films to be screened are:

Russian Folk by Director Michael Doubek and performance by the White Birch Ensemble
A Grand Walk by Director Sam Wirth
Lakeshore Preserve with Director Austin Moore
IMMOO: 240 Frames Per Second with Director Steve Donovan
White & Lazy with Director James Runde

This event is funded in part by Beyond the Page, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Madison Community Foundation and if offered in partnership with the Wisconsin Film Festival with refreshments generously donated by Willy Street Coop.
