Triathlons, October

A triathlon is an individual endurance sport that involves swimming, biking and running. The Ironman Wisconsin event held on September 7, 2008 consisted of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run in and around the Madison area. An event like this is considered a long distance triathlon. The international distance or standard course used in the Olympic triathlon consists of a .93 mile swim, a 24.8 mile bike, and a 6.2 mile run. A half triathlon consists of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and a 13.1 mile run. The sport of triathlon has expanded considerably in recent years around the globe and now includes thousands of races with hundreds of thousands of competitors each year.
