Community Writing Assistance

Need advice about writing of any sort? Get help writing your:

Assistance at the South Madison Branch (2222 S. Park Street) is available on Tuesdays, May 26 through August 4 from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m.

This free, first-come first-serve service is sponsored by the UW-Madison Writing Center and the UW Division of Continuing Studies, with funding by the Evjue Foundation. Writing assistance is in English only. For more resources about tutoring or reading/writing in Spanish, see our literacy resources.

 

Computer Training

Free basic computer training is available at the Central Branch.  Learn computer basics, how to set up an email account, how to search the Internet, Word Processing for resumes and cover letters, and how to use the library’s catalog, magazine and newspaper searching, including our Genealogy and other databases.  Training is offered all year long on Saturdays, at 9:00 and 10:00.  Call 266-6350 to register for a 45-minute, one-on-one appointment, or for additional information.

 

Meet with an Educational Advisor

Community adults interested in: continuing education for personal or professional development; procedures for returning to school; undergraduate and graduate programs; Certificate and Associate Programs: late afternoon, evening classes and distance learning; career planning and educational planning. Assistance for Job Seekers

Beginning June 25th, Madison Public Library, the Madison Senior Center, and the UW-Writing Center will be offering bi-weekly workshops for job seekers at the Central Library. Trained personnel from the Library, the Writing Center, and the Senior Center will help interested individuals

  • write resumes and cover letters
  • use credible job search web sites
  • apply for jobs online
  • establish free, web-based email accounts for job search contacts.

Sessions are offered Monday and Thursday afternoons, 1 - 4 p.m. through mid-August. Reduced hours may be available through November. Interested job seekers may register for half-hour training sessions by calling 266-6350. Drop-ins are welcome and will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.
