The Register of Deeds keeps the following:
1. Birth, marriage and death records for Dane County. Some of them
date from before 1900, but they are complete from 1908 to the present.
These records are indexed.
2. Land records. These include deed and mortgage records from 1835
and are indexed by seller and buyer.
3. Other records, including changes of name and farm names.

The County Treasurer retains tax records for 11 years. Earlier records
are housed at the Wisconsin Historical Society Library.
Dane County Clerk of Courts

The Clerk of Courts office has divorce records. Dane County naturalization
records from 1840 to 1940 have been moved to the Wisconsin Historical
Society Library.

The Probate Office has records dating from 1839. They are indexed
and available on microfilm. They include wills and probate, guardianship
and commitment records. The Wisconsin Historical Society Library has
duplicate records for cases filed before 1930.
The Wisconsin Historical Society Library is a major source
for United States and Canadian genealogical research. The collection
includes county, local and family histories, ship passenger lists,
maps, newspapers, census records, archives manuscripts, and much more.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Genealogical
Library has microfilmed records from around the world. An index
